Happy NaNoWriMo everyone!
Yes, it is officially November 1st, the first day of that much beloved but grueling annual writing challenge to put 50,000 words on paper that we all start and, hopefully, all finish.
I love participating in NaNoWriMo, as I have for the past nine years. However, this year, I am trying something very different.
Many writers participate in NaNoWriMo with the hope of having a book they can one day put out into the world. However this is so far easier said than done that it’s not even funny.
Now, more than ever, authors are choosing to forego traditional publishing for indie publishing in order to have creative control over their novels. However, while you don’t have to find a publisher, this decision is a huge choice that many authors are unprepared for.
For this NaNoWriMo season, I will not be, once again, writing 50,000 words of a book I never plan to publish. Rather, I will be collecting thousands of words from various indie authors on every aspect of indie publishing from cover art and marketing strategies, to editing, to how, exactly, they decided they were ready to put that novel into the world.
Each day this month, I will be publishing one interview of an indie writer pouring their heart out in order to accomplish their dream of creating their own novel. If you are interested in taking that next step beyond NaNoWriMo, I suggest you give them a read. You might be surprised by what you find.
Happy writing, and may the least busy author reach the 50,000 word mark!
